I loved coming down into these river valleys with the snowy mountains and the muted early spring colours.

In order to get to the village of Siglufjörður we had to go north up the coast of the fjord then dip SW inland and back up the NE to the other side of the peninsula because the roads were a bit limited around this area. In fact, the first road to Ólafsfjörður didn't open until 1940. Until then they had to use horses, ships and seaplanes.
