It was cold outside, maybe the high 50s, but the pool was nice and toasty warm!

This waterfall is one of the most popular tourist attractions in Iceland forming part of the Golden Circle Tour that many tourists do on a day trip from Reykjavik.

It was an amazing sight, but the wind was incredible that day. I had a hard time wheeling Sofia in the pushchair and keeping us both upright. It was a very quick stop and back to the shelter of the car.

Ominous looking active volcano in the south of Iceland. This is Iceland's most active volcano.

It last erupted in 2000 and it is expected that an eruption will occur in the very near future.

One of Iceland's most famous waterfalls. It was a waypoint in the first leg of Amazing Race 6. The water drops 200 ft over a cliff on the former coastline.

Changing holiday

A few months ago we decided to go somewhere over the August Bank Holiday. There are still a few European countries that we haven't visited and wanted to go somewhere new. Since our frequent flier accounts are still bursting with miles, we booked an award ticket to Helsinki, Finland and home from Tallinn, Estonia with a connection in Prague. A short ferry ride connects Helsinki and Tallinn.

A few weeks ago Tom found out that he had to fly to Budapest from Estonia rather than flying home with us. He booked a changeable ticket from Prague to Budapest and a separate ticket home from Budapest.

I could see the wheels turning in Tom's head. How can we spin this into a longer holiday for all of us? Hmmm. After checking out some flights, trains, ferries, etc. he came up with a plan.

We will all fly from Manchester to Helsinki via Prague on Thursday this week. We will spend four days in and around Helsinki before flying to Budapest on Finnair on Monday night. Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday Tom has to work--meetings and dinners out. That leaves three full days for Sofia and I to explore Budapest on our own in a five-star hotel a block off the Danube in the middle of Budapest. Tom and I visited 4 years ago when we flew to Budapest and took about ten days to drive to Prague before driving home. We always said we would go back. On Friday morning we will all fly from Budapest to Tallinn with a connection in Helsinki. Sunday afternoon we all fly back to Manchester together.

I still haven't managed to finish posting my Iceland photos. Perhaps I will have to do one large post with the rest of the photos I want to share...when I return that is. I have much to do in the next couple of days since I thought I was going to be gone a long weekend and will now be gone for a week and a half.

If anyone has been to any of these three cities I would love to hear your advice on things to see and do AND avoid. Especially things to do with a 2-year old!
